As for me I'm for type4 with adapting latin names for rare species 

(I wish Latin "ce/ci/cy" were always transformed to {ce/ci/ci}, and Latin "ca/co/cu" to {ka/ko/ku})  

and aboriginal names for locally important species.

However, due to the fact that panda is shiong mao in Chinese which means "bear of cat-type" then it'd be reasonable not to adapt to as {cionmau} but instead as {latcribe} just because the Chinese do it that way!

(btw, both words, cionmau and latcribe are in jvs).

A brivla, even if it is identical to the scientific name except for the capital
letter and italics, *is* a common name in Lojban. The common name for the
genus Avena in Spanish is "avena"; likewise the common name for the order
Strepsiptera in Lojban is "strepsiptera".

I was talking about the /source language/ common name, not the Lojban name we derive from it.
