Are you attempting to fit into a meter so it can be sung? In order to
improve it by that standard, we'd have to know the original.

Is there anywhere on the web that we can hear the melody of this song,
or read the original lyrics? Google has no record of the existence of
any string "bonnie boughs of London" on any webpage.
