I can only let you know what I do.  For me naintenance means mostly 
things like checking if the links are still there, restoring them if 
appropriate, reviewing the English-language text (or other natural 
language), checking for attachments that may have been planted by 
outsiders, letting Robin know via the IRC if a page is broken, changing 
appearnace/format to make it look better (e.g. adding a photo) etc.
None of these things require knowledge of Lojban.

For something like the news on the Lojban-language home page, 
I do my best in Lojban and then ask an experienced Lojbanist to 
review it before putting it on.  Seems to work.

Hopefully, someone else will comment on this.  My own comment: 
Don't start a project unless you quite sure that you will finish it.  The wiki 
is full of incomplete projects, many of which died because something 
more intersting came along.
