I read about the Pimsleur method a couple of weeks ago. The main point

Does anyone know more about this theory or have a link to some research?

Try searching for "spaced repetitions", which I believe is the same thing. (I've never used the Pimsleur method, and I'm guessing here.) The idea behind spaced repetitions is that as long as the student remembers correctly, the interval between repetitions can increase. This allows high retention of the learned material, and more and more material to be learned.

Piotr Wozniak incorporated this method into Supermemo. Check out the Supermemo site <http://www.supermemo.com/>, and the selection of articles <http://www.supermemo.com/english/contents.htm#Articles>.
