I don't oppose the idea, but I thought it might be a nice exercise or challenge to a typographer to beautify a text while catering to its readership. 

I've heard anything looks good in Caslon...

Only simplistically. "However he wants" is implied in that I have the final editorial decision.

Some people don't want me to explore this question at all. Some have made it clear that they only want to see uncased, unpunctuated Lojban.

Some people do want this explored. They have stated that markup would be a positive aid to learning the language.

What I can do is apply the normal conventions of Latin typography to the text as though it were any other language. What I can't do is get people who want no change to want change. What I can't do is anticipate the reaction of the community at large to an edition of a book which treats Lojban like a real language rather than an oddball. So I think that if I stick to my goal ("Use standard Latin typography for this edition of Alice as in my other editions of Alice") then I don't have to get mired in a different goal ("Reform Lojban") since that is something for the community to decide.
