Actually, you bring up some points that have already been discussed
with the lead animator (who is also the director, and I shall refer to
him as such from now on). We are -not- going to borrow heavily from
the source languages, because that sends out a very clear message that
the unrepresented cultures are less important. We should include as
many cultures as possible. While we can't feature absolutely -every-
culture in -every- episode, I don't think it's unreasonable to include
Thai, Korean, Japanese, different African cultures, South American
cultures, etc. I also do not think it's 'safe' or sensible to feature
any kind of ethnic district (I'd like to think that people don't
huddle into ethnic conclaves), so please get that right out of your
minds.

I -do- think it would be appropriate to feature different things which
are strongly identified with each culture.
I also agree that we need to have Lojbanic holidays and customs unique
to Lojban.

Lojban independence day (whatever the day was in 1987).
Xorlo day
Spring Faire
Summer Matsuri
Fall Harvest
Winter Matsuri
Parents Day (Important to stress here that Lojban does not specify
biological ties, even demonstrate that in the episode)
Kids Day


The director addressed something just now about the script. It's
edging on being too campy, so what he suggested is that he crack open
a study book and say, "Okay, I should study before we land.", and then
it does the imagination scene wherein they name things. They should
start with J vs. DJ and stress the difference, and the first few times
he should mess it up. Next should be C and TC, and he would try to
pronounce it like a K. Finally, he should come across some confusing
words (like sodva vs. sovda, tsiju vs. sidju, mlatu) and words with
difficult consonant clusters.

Another fun thing would be to have a cabin message play in Lojban and
then English.

I think the signs around the terminal should all be in Lojban as well.
He could try to read everything on his way out.

We need to create a small-ish metropolitan area (San Luis Obispo is
the best reference I can give, so if you've never been, look for it on
a map, it's in California, USA) with a little bit of outlying suburbia
and a central busy-area, and maybe one day in a later episode they can
go visit a major city. So, how exactly are we going to go about
creating this whole fictional town?

I'll come up with a vocab list (probably take heavily from the common
words list) and we'll use that for the first episode, so let's just
sweeten the script for now as we have the lesson built in already.
