Outside of all context, they do sound a bit contradictory, yes. Just
like "ta zunle gi'e pritu" may sound contradictory. How can something
be to the left and to the right? Probably because it's to the left of
something and to the right of something else, or because it's to the
left at one time and to the right (of the same thing) at some other
time, and so on. It's hard to tell without any context.

"Roses are red and roses are white" doesn't sound very useful by
itself, but if you add more context, "[on this side of the garden]
roses are red, and [on that side of the garden] roses are white" is
better. Or "roses are sometimes red and sometimes white". So just like
something can go from being left to being right at different times,
then something (roses, in this case) can go from being red to being
white at different places.
