Dotside or no dotside, the word "la" cannot be a name by itself (although it can be part of a name, as in "la broda be la brode", where the second "la" is a part of the name, but that has nothing to do with dotside).

All dotside does is remove the requirement for cmevla not to contain the syllables doi-la-lai-la'i. It does not allow anything else to be names. Dotside adds the requirement that cmevla that begin with a consonant must always be preceded by a dot. It was always the case that cmevla that begin with a vowel must be preceded by a dot and it was always the case that all cmevla must always end with a dot, It was also always the case that all cmevla required to be preceded by a dot in some contexts, for example when quoted with "zo". It was always "zo .lojbab." that's not a new requirement of dotside.

For some reason, people seem to have very strange ideas about what dotside is. It certainly does not mean that you can take any word, put dots around it, and you end up with a name. It also does not mean that you need dots around any name. You only need them around cmevla.
