I don't think so, for these reasons:
1) The author of the original probably doesn't know about the I'd assume fairly recent taxonomical change to the Nightingale- after all, jbovlaste lists Nightingale as a keyword for {turdida}. (Which should probably be fixed, now that I think of it.)

2) The meaning of the English could be equivalently said "If you're a dog, do not try to be a nightingale, and do not try to be a flycatcher."

3) Not all flycatchers are nightingales.

I would say it would more correctly be "Don’t be a nightingale or other kind of flycatcher, if you’re a dog."
