That's right, according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasara

Apparently the name is derived from "remover of bad fate" in Sanskrit,
so it could be "la maldimvi'u" if you were to translate it (which is
not necessarily a good idea). I assume it's the name of a god.

I guess the target audience of the original book (i.e. mainly Indian
children) will be familiar with the Dasara fair, but many Lojban
readers probably won't be. My first thought when I read that they were
going to a "tersalci" was that they were going to the birthday of
somebody named Dasara, but then the buying of things there made little
sense. Perhaps for an international audience it would make more sense
to say something like "lo tersalci be lo cevni po'u la dasaras"
(assuming Dasara is indeed a god) or some other clarificatory
description.
