You're assuming I don't want to read it. I meant the population at large.  

In my opinion it's a really good idea to translate
more standard literature beyond {le cmalu noltru} and
{lo selfri be la .alis. bei bu'u la selmacygu'e}.
Translating only fantasy/mystery just helps restricting the community
in my opinion.

"More standard" literature? Science fiction and mystery novels would provide a means of developing the whole language and one's own translation skills, along with being a far more popular type of reading material than philosophy. 
And my point of stressing quantity over quality is based on the small number of Lojban users. Popular texts would (or at least might) attract more people.
