The utility of a dictionary is not to explain obvious words
Then almost all dictionaries suffer from this 'lack of utility', since they all explain (or define) many obvious words. The problem is that a word that is obvious to one person may not be obvious to another. Part of the reason for defining even the simple words is to let the reader know that there are no surprises in the meaning, or what they are if they exist.
I think we need a Lojban dictionary for all its words just as much as any other language needs a self-defining dictionary.
