"mi zukte fi no da" does NOT mean that I perform some act but with no
goal. It says that there is no goal such that I'm performing some act
with it as its goal. It says nothing about whether I'm performing any
acts with no goals or not.

In any case, the book does not say that Alice is doing nothing. It
only says that she is sitting by her sister on the bank (that's
something she is doing right there) having nothing to do. "She has
nothing to do" is not the same as "she is doing nothing".
